It’s a chance to draft two players instead of one. The timing of the deal however is a bit peculiar. Jon thinks it gives the Celtics enough time to reset their assets for an additional pre-draft deal.
Justin points out that next year’s draft is highly revered and perhaps especially so by the Celtics. Could they end up with the top 2 picks in the 2018 NBA draft? Boston was able to trim a bit of salary space moving down. Justin believes the Celtics don’t quite believe Markelle Fultz is the player everyone thinks he is.
Is trading the top pick bad for selling your vision to free agents? Justin points out the Celtics organization and its fans have become a recruiting tool.
Who will Boston take? It looks like one of the swingmen; either Josh Jackson or Jayson Tatum. Jon loves Tatum’s offense and thinks he has the size to play as a small ball four. Is it a problem that he’s from Duke? Is his lack of athleticism a problem?
Justin and Jon both believe the Celtics will make the pick rather than trading it. The chances of a big trade happening are not great.
Could Lonzo Ball fall to the Celtics? Justin is not feeling that at all and really doesn’t like his jump shot. Would you take Ball over Jackson or Tatum?
Is Danny Ainge going for it? It seems like Golden State will win the title the next few years, but will they? Things can go wrong and maybe Boston should push forward. Maybe they need to take some risks in doing so. The Celtics have the assets to swing and miss.
Can Boston trade for Paul George and convince him to stay? What would it take? Can you still go get Gordon Hayward? Would Isaiah Thomas take a discount to make it all work?
Danny Ainge is discussed. He is often criticized, but he has managed to be very successful for the Celtics. The heist he pulled off with Brooklyn has set the team up well for the present and future.
This a good one, listen below!
