Celtics-Nation: thank you for an amazing 2012-13 season - From the Desk of Nick Gelso

Written by

I cannot believe that the 2012-13 NBA season has concluded for the Boston Celtics.

After five (plus) seasons of deep playoff runs, it's very strange to have the off-season begin the first week of May. To put out a retrospective memo to the staff and listeners of CLNS Radio is nearly incomprehensible this early into the spring.

CLNS Radio was at one time a Boston Celtics based network. Though our expansion to cover all Boston sports teams is now complete, we still follow the NBA season as our business calendar. So, as the Celtics have gone fishing quite early this season, it's now the time to send out my reflections and thank you notes to the staff, listeners and readers of CLNS. It's become a ritual for our management team to reach out to you with our sincerest thank you!

So... here goes...

As many of you know, CLNS Radio is born from North Station Sports and Gino's Jungle. Back then, our two sites were primarily fan blogs with a dream of becoming real media, with access to the Celtics Locker Room. Brandon and I also dreamt of expanding our offerings to cover all New England sports teams. In 2012-13, I am so proud to say that we accomplished both and much, much more.

Getting caught up in the day to day bustle of managing a large staff, we easily lose sight of everything accomplished in such a short period of time.

Here are some of the highlights of 2012-13:

The NEW CLNS Radio:

In 2010, we launched the first CLNS Radio. At the time, it was a cutting edge, state of the art website, offering both audio and visual content. In a fast 3 years, the CLNS Radio website had become obsolete and barely functional. After applying months worth of bandages, it had become apparent that site was no-longer acceptable. We had planned for an off-season relaunch but things had gotten so bad that waiting was no-longer a possibility. Along came Joe Russo and his J&R Marketing web consulting firm. Joe has been a pleasure to work with. After 2 months of planning, conceptualizing and building a site from scratch, I can honestly say that the amount of pride consuming me has become over-whelming. Thanks to Joe, the vision of CLNS Radio becoming a one-stop-shop for New England sports coverage, has become a reality. Thank-you Joe!

Social Media Growth:

During mid-season, it became very obvious to Brandon, Sean and I had neglected our social media community sorely. Something had to be done quick as the YouTube, Facebook and Twitter following was an embarrassment. We quickly enacted a plan and promoted the never-tired Chris Hogan as our Director of Social Media. In 4 short months, Hogan quadrupled our social media following and today, we are very proud of the community that Chris built on all social media accounts for CLNS. Thank-you Chris Hogan!

The Garden Report:

I am still floored by this addition to the CLNS offerings. A huge undertaking by Jared Weiss, Jeff Clark and myself, the Garden Report has grown into one of the biggest marketing pieces on CLNS. I cannot thank Jared, Jimmy Toscano, Evans Clinchey and Lucas Parolin enough for their hard work and professionalism.

Sean Bakke:

His original nickname was the man who wears many hats...   Today, we can honesly say that Mr. Bakke wears ALL OF THE HATS here at CLNS Radio. Promoted to content manager this season, Sean never missed a beat. The growth of the network coverage has been incredible and a direct reflection of the hard work of Sean Bakke. Thank-you Sean!

To everyone I may have missed:

When managing a staff of 50 plus people, it's easy to lose sight of the MANY people involved in making it all a possibility. I'd like to sincerely thank every member of the staff for their hard work, passion and commitment to the vision that is CLNS Radio.

So what's next???

CLNS Radio is not finished yet. Though the Celtics season has come to an end, the coverage at CLNS has not! You can expect more featured columns, podcasts and NBA-based events at CLNS. But, while the C's news slows down, you now have all of the New England sports coverage to keep you occupied and the CLNS'ers very busy!

In addition to the new site, expanded coverage, Garden Report and social media growth, you can now expect a CLNS Mobile APP - coming before the tip-off of the 2013-14 NBA season. Stay tuned for more details.

Until then, have a great summer all and thank you VERY much for your support, mailbag entries, encouragement and love. We love you all very much!

Sincerely,

Nick Gelso
