This is New England Patriots Nation's weekly Roundtable, today Wes Langley will be talking about the Linebacking Core for this upcoming season and we also will be talking about the importance of Patriots QB Jimmy Garopolo play and progression in the preseason and 1st 4 games of the regular season.
Question #1: What is your expectations for Patriots backup Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo for the 1st 4 games of the season?
Wes: despite all the circumstances I am really intrigued and excited about the potential of Jimmy Garoppolo , he's had 2 years to know the system, he has amazing mobility to make plays in and out of the pocket, also is showing he has a big arm and can make any throw in the NFL.
The reps he's gotten over the past two years are gonna be so key for Jimmy's development, he has gotten better in every phase of his game, and no we aren't expecting him to throw for 300-400 yards a game like Tom Brady, we are asking him to make good decisions and don't turn the ball over, players like Dion Lewis, Julian Edelman, Rob Gronkowski, and Martellus Bennett will make it easier for Jimmy as well, I expect The Patriots to be really successful in the 1st 4 games and Jimmy Garoppolo is gonna suprise people with his big arm and he also can run and get 1st downs to keep drives alive.
Wes also wants to share this column about what Mike Reiss from ESPN had to say about Jimmy Garoppolo
ESPN Boston Writer Mike Reiss: "The Reps that he has gotten on the field in preseason games and practice, I think he's shown alot of development, better understanding, quicker recognition and readings of the defense, more awareness of what's happening on the defensive side of the ball, better communication, better understanding of the offense, really everything".
