Newly released surveillance video appears to show former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez holding a gun shortly after the murder of Odin Lloyd.
The images were included in an affidavit supporting an arrest warrant for Hernandez and were released Thursday in Attleboro District Court.
Taken from Hernandez’s home security system, the images show Hernandez at approximately 3:30 a.m., on June 17, not long after police say Lloyd was shot to death in a nearby industrial park.
Their significance stems from the fact that no murder weapon has been recovered. Lloyd was shot with .45 caliber bullets, and police did find a magazine for a .45 caliber pistol registered to Hernandez – a pistol they believe is seen in the images.
According to WCVB, the documents also include surveillance video of a Nissan Altima outside Lloyd’s home hours before the murder. The car appears to be the same rental car Hernandez returned on the day of Lloyd’s murder. In it, investigators found a shell casing identical to those found near Lloyd’s body and dirt in the wheel wells consistent with the soil in the area the body was found.
Also revealed Thursday, Hernandez told police he did not have a phone number for Ernest Wallace, one of the other men allegedly involved in Lloyd's murder, however Wallace's number was later found in Hernandez's phone.
Attleboro District Court released more than 100 pages of warrant materials Thursday after Judge Daniel O’Shea granted a request from several media outlets for access to the records.
Hernandez, who has pleaded not guilty, is being held without bail as he awaits a probable cause hearing on August 22.
