Patriots Vince Wilfork ‘Excited’ for the season to begin

Written by

During the early stages of free agency, the New England Patriots tried to paint defensive tackle, Vince Wilfork, into a corner during contract discussion. The Patriots had every right to do so, the chips were stacked against Wilfork, entering his 11th season with the Patriots, coming off a season ending injury. Some say time heals all wounds, that sure seems to be the case, during last weeks minicamp. Wilfork is ready to put this behind him and is looking forward to the future.

In the middle of March most Patriots fans were worried. The thought of losing Vince Wilfork to another team just felt wrong. But, it almost happened.

The Patriots reportedly asked Vince Wilfork to take a pay cut, he called their bluff and reportedly asked to be released from the team. In the end both player and organization, agreed on a three year extension, that relies on the health and performance of Wilfork, in order for him to make that big money.

If I didn't believe the things that were brought to me, I wouldn't have signed it. I'm not upset. I'm not holding any type of grudge. Business is business and everybody handles business in different types of ways, (Explained Wilfork, to the media) if I didn't believe the things that were brought to me, I wouldn't have signed it. I'm not upset. I'm not holding any type of grudge. Business is business and everybody handles business in different types of ways.

Since signing that contract, the whole mess with Wilfork seems like an after thought. With the Patriots being so active in free agency. Plus having a draft that provided a lot of media coverage, one can quickly forget what transpired early this offseason.

Now Wilfork, has chance to mentor a young defensive tackle, Dominique Easley, the Patriots first round pick in this years draft. This is critical for the development of young talent in the NFL. You need a good role model, someone that you can learn from. Wilfork is the kind of player Easley can learn from.

Wilfork now looks to the future, deciding not to dwell on the past. He is full of excitement to be back and still loves the game.

Every year I'm excited but I think this year is going to be a little more special because of what I've been through and how far I came along.

Could this be the final minicamp of Wilfork’s career? Time will tell.

Once thing is for sure: The Patriots are a better team with Vince Wilfork, than without.

Living in Nova Scotia, Canada there was not a large following of the NFL. Unfortunately other than talking his wife's ear off about the Patriots, there was no outlet for him to express his thoughts.

Luckily he has also found a new home here at clnsradio. All this coverage has finally provided a well-deserved break for his supportive wife Carrie.

Scott and Carrie have two beautiful, creative and fun-loving kids. Brady (I wonder where he got that name) who is five and Abigail, his daughter, who just turned three. During the winter on Sunday's, you can find them all gathered together, enjoying Patriots football.
