CLNSRadio: New England Patriots weekly Twitterbag

Written by

We have more questions and comments from you the reader! I want to thank everyone for submitting via Twitter. Let's dive right in and chat Patriots.

I think this week showed that the New England Patriots will always take a look at the best players available to them. Having already on paper, a nice group of defensive tackles, Kevin Williams the ex-Viking was in for a tryout.

After OTAs are done they will add more from these evaluations. Everyone wants the tightend position addressed. I agree with that, but I am not sure who can fill that void. Finley/Keller both have not worked out a deal with the Patriots. Perhaps during training camp or shortly after there will be a player available from other teams.

Rob Gronkowski will start more games then Danny Amendola. This is pending on the health of Gronkowski for week one. I don't think Amendola is a starter heading into this year. It's a good question and tricky to answer. Given the fact that both have trouble staying healthy.

This question was actually on Patriotsbeat podcast today here at CLNSRadio. You can listen to it here.

Aaron Dobson is a lock in my opinion. He will get legitimate time starting. I think heading into training camp both Josh Boyce and Kenbrell Thompkins will be fighting for a spot on the final roster.

Boyce, if healthy, could be a nice addition to this offense. Thompkins is still raw talent that has not been harnessed. I think Boyce out of this group has the most to gain this year, considering we have not really seen what he can bring to the table.

I don't think the Patriots will trade Ryan Mallett. They will hold three quarterbacks for the 2014 calendar year. Mallett knows the offense and if Brady goes down, second round draft pick Jimmy Garoppolo might be talented, but I don't want to see him run this offense in year one.

It's not the first time the Patriots have done this. It's a similar situation to when Mallett was drafted. The Patriots carried Brady/Hoyer/Mallett combo that year.

I think he will win his fourth ring.

Brady now has that defense that can back him up. The defense (well the secondary specifically) was priority one this offseason. It's now not up to Brady to win every game. Something that will make winning that fourth ring not such a daunting task. If this current team can stay healthy, there is a good chance they win it all this year.

Well I am going to take question number three. Thanks for giving me so many options.

Linebackers depth was addressed this week with the signing of NFL veteran James Anderson. Anderson ties in nicely teamed with Jamie Collins and gives them a formidable combo in pass coverage. The Patriots have four quality backers in Mayo, Hightower, Collins and now Anderson. I like this move the Patriots made this week.

Today I was a guest on the Patriots Beat podcast here at CLNSRadio. We discussed Tom Brady and if he is still an elite quarterback. Plus, can the team still win with Tom Brady's arm alone or does he need help. We also feature some of the Twitterbag question. If you have the time it is well worth a listen.

As always keep the question coming! See you next week, for CLNSRadio Patriots Twitterbag.
