Hernandez is accused of murdering Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado. The victims were shot while stopped in traffic on July 16, 2012, by someone who drove up alongside them in an SUV with Rhode Island plates and opened fire.
Weeks after the double shooting, Hernandez was signed to a five-year deal worth $40 million with the New England Patriots. Such promise and hope for the future, quickly turned into a disaster. Having only played one year on that contract, his life outside of the football field finally caught up with him, landing him behind bars.
Hernandez, has been in jail since last June, charged with the death of Odin Lloyd, whose body was found in an industrial park near Hernandez's home. He is currently being held with no bail, since pleading not guilty to the first-degree murder charge.
The former Patriots tight end, can't seem to stay out of trouble, even behind bars, earlier this month the Bristol County grand jury indicted him on charges related to the assaulting an inmate at the Bristol County House of Correction.
For the Patriots, this continues to be a black eye, on a once golden image for the organization. The team is yet to comment on the situation.
