New England Patriots: Former first-round draft choice has a visit

Written by

Adding depth to the roster before the draft can now be considered a priority for the New England Patriots. With only days to spare, continuing to do their homework prior in the draft.

After playing 100 career regular-season games in the NFL, Davin Joseph has landed a visit with the New England Patriots, per a source that informed ESPN's Field Yates.

Joseph, the former Tampa Bay Buccaneer and two time Pro Bowler, started every game last season at left guard, but he was a salary cap casualty this offseason. Joseph was scheduled to make $6 million this season before being cut.

The guard position has been widely reported as a need that had to be address this off season, but it appears the Patriots are willing to add depth before the draft in order to fill this hole in the roster.

If signed, Joseph could fall under the same category as two of the most recent signing by the Patriots, LB Josh Hull and yesterday's new arrival DE Will Smith, as a players who will be competing for a roster spot come training camp.

This move could also provided more suitable stability for the protection of Tom Brady, as veterans Ryan Wendell and Dan Connolly have had their recent struggles.

This is not the first guard to have met with the Patriots during the offseason. Free agent Shelley Smith had been to Foxboro at the beginning of free agency, but he decided to sign with the Miami Dolphins.
