New England Patriots add run blocking TE Matthew Mulligan

Written by

With both Jake Ballard and Daniel Feels released over the weekend, the New England Patriots needed to fill some roster spots and added another tight end in fourth year veteran Matthew Mulligan.

Mulligan, the former New York Jets and St. Louis Rams tight end is known for his run blocking skills and isn’t much of a pass catching threat. In 50 career NFL games, he has only 14 catches for 144 yards and one touchdown.

He has blocked for quality named running backs over his career including Shonn Greene, Steven Jackson and Daryl Richardson. This time around he will have opportunity to help out Stevan Ridley in the Patriots backfield.

Mulligan along with Michael Hoomanawanui could form a solid run blocking tight end combination with Rob Gronkowski and Zach Sudfeld being the main offensive pass catching tight end threats.
