PHILADELPHIA-- According to a report from Bleeding Green Nation, a Philadelphia Eagles blog on SBNation.com, Eagles quarterback Michael Vick will start on Friday in the team’s preseason opener against the New England Patriots. This information was first tweeted by the team’s Eagles Insider account which is run by the writers on the team’s official website.
Vick will start and split first-team reps with Foles. Foles will start next week. They will probably alternate series.
Vick threw for 2,362 yards, 12 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 10 starts for the Eagles last season. Towards the end of the season, he was a victim of the injury bug as he suffered a concussion against the Dallas Cowboys on November 11, causing him to miss a significant amount of time.
Nick Foles started in his place and performed well, throwing for 1,699 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions. His best game came on December 9 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In that contest, he went 32-51 for 381 yards and threw two touchdowns.
On Friday, Vick will be the one in charge, but that does not mean he will stay the starter for the rest of the season. In what has been a very tight quarterback battle exacerbated during the past few days of training camp, Nick Foles is close behind him.
