With the NFL draft over and several undrafted free agents added to the roster, the New England Patriots released five players, who were on the bubble to make the 2013 roster. Released were CB Malcolm Williams, WR Jeremy Ebert, FB Tony Fiammetta, TE Brad Herman and DL Tracy Robertson.
The most noteable names from this list includes Williams and Fiametta. Williams was a 2011 7th round pick by the Patriots and over the past two seasons spent most of the time on the practice squad. In career NFL games, he has recorded one special teams tackel.
Fiammetta was orginally signed by New England before the 2012 season but was placed on the exempt/left squad list last August 4 and didn't appear in the game last season. He was activated from the reserve list on March 18 but wasn't expected to make the 53 man roster in September either. The Patriots haven't really used a fullback since Heath Evans left after the 2008 season.
Herman, Ebert and Robertson were not expected to last long in training camp this summer since the Patriots have added plenty of depth to the tight end, wide reciever or defensive line position respectively.
