Yates: Patriots sign OL Will Svitek to contract

Written by

A day after resigning corner Aqib Talib to a one-year contract, the New England Patriots addressed some offensive line needs by signing former Atlanta Falcons and Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Will Svitek according to Field Yates of ESPNBoston.comThe Patriots brought in Svitek to help boost the team's offensive line after loosing dependable guard/tackle Donald Thomas to the Indianapolis Colts earlier in the week. Svitek, who missed all of the 2012 season with an arm injury is expected to compete for a backup offensive tackle role but is not a guarantee to make this team.During his eight year career, Svitek has been regarded as a good pass blocker and did a solid job filling in for Sam Baker during the 2011 season starting 10 games in Baker's absence for the Falcons.Expect the Patriots to try to resign Sebastian Vollmer and bring another veteran offensive lineman or two so that there will be plenty of competition once the training camp starts in late July.
