Keys to Victory: New England Patriots VS New York Jets

Written by

What do the New England Patriots have to do to take the lead in the AFC East?

1.  Score early and often: This one is pretty simple and is honestly a factor to winning any game or contest in any sport, but for the New York Jets, this can put away the game quickly. The Jets have a poor offense, they have nobody’s besides Jermaine Kearse at Wide Reciever, and their Running Backs are hurt. Their Quarter Back is also Josh McCown, which shows you how well they are doing. Their offense is only putting up 18 points a game on average. If the Patriots can get on the board early and make the Jets play from behind, they will force the Jets to play a game they do not want to be playing and force mistakes which can give this defense the confidence it needs to turn the page on what is a lack luster start to the season.

2.  Control their run game: The Jets offense sucks to put it in simple terms, but they rely on their run game to keep them in it. With Bilal Powell ruled out, they lose arguably their most dynamic player. Matt Forte was a force for a while in Chicago, but does not have the spark that made him so exciting to watch in the past. Their other Running Back, Elijah McGuire, could pose a threat. The rookie has shown flashes of being a solid back in the NFL. With an average of 5.2 yards per carry and rushing for 93 yards against a surprising top defense in Jacksonville, the kid has put his name out there for fans to know. The Patriots have been susceptible to new players in the past. Deshuan Watson three for 300 yards against them and in the first game, Kareem Hunt, made a statement against the Patriots defense. The Jets have the 12th ranked rushing offense and 23rd ranked passing offense, clearly their run game is what they are using. If the Patriots can stop that, they’ll be giving the ball back to Tom Brady often.

3.  Turnovers: This is not so much a key to victory, but rather a key to turning this season around. The Patriots need a statement win, but their defense needs to go out and prove themselves especially against a team they should dominate. If this team wants to get back in the discussion of the top team, their defense needs to pick up the slack so Tom Brady does not have to do all the work. The Jets are a team that can help the Patriots get back on track.
