Pats' Dennard Gets 30 Days in Jail

Written by

New England Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard was sentenced on Thursday to 30 days in prison beginning on March 1st, 2014 on charges of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest during an April 2012 incident.

Dennard also received 24 months of probation for each charge, and 100 hours of community service.

Dennard, who was drafted by the Patriots in the 7th round of last season’s NFL Draft, saw his draft stock drop dramatically as a result of these charges. Some draft experts had him ranked as  high as a 2nd round talent.

Because of the timing of Dennard’s jail time, he will not miss any football related activities for the Patriots. Dennard had a strong rookie campaign with the Patriots last season, and even took over a starting role with the team midway through the season.

With the return of Dennard, the Patriots now have a better of idea of what their secondary will look like for the 2013 season. Posted below is the projected depth chart for the Patriots cornerbacks:

1.      Aqib Talib

2.      Alfonzo Dennard

3.      Kyle Arrington

4.      Ras-I Dowling/Marquice Cole

5.      Malcolm Williams
