LaFell's 6-foot-3 frame stands out among most the other wide receivers currently on the roster.
Tuesday saw Brandon Lafell have his best practice yet during training camp. A positive note moving forward. The Patriots are hoping Lafell is turning the corner in learning the offense. Tom Brady was quick to note the progression of the big bodied wideout.
“He keeps making more plays,” Brady said, via CSNNE.com. “He’s understanding better and better. He’s a veteran. He’s savvy, knows how to run the routes, big body, big frame, makes a lot of tough catches. … I’ve got some of the little pygmies out there like Julian [Edelman] and Danny [Amendola] and it’s nice to have a little bigger guy out there from time to time who has a bigger catch radius. Hopefully Danny and Julian don’t get mad at me for saying that. They won’t. They know I’m joking.”
Inside the joke, Brady is on to something, the lack of a large receiver in the lineup. It’s something the Patriots missed and needed to work on this offseason. With no timetable on the return of Aaron Dobson and Rob Gronkowski history of not being available, it’s reason for concern.
LaFell saw plenty of action in the first two days of this week's joint practices with the Redskins, hopefully that translates into opportunities in the first preseason game on Thursday night.
