The Carolina Panthers placed running back Tyler Gaffney on waivers, after he had suffered a torn left meniscus on Friday, with the hope that no one would snatch him up, that was not the case. The New England Patriots have exercised their option to claim Gaffney up from the waiver wire. - Per ESPN, NFL insider, Adam Scheftler.
The Patriots basically picked up a sixth round pick, for the price of base salary. The move is likely a backup plan for both, Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen entering contract years, if either decides to test the open market, there is an option already available for next years camp.
In order to make this happen the Patriots have released linebacker, Josh Hull, who they had signed back in April.
