Patriots Sign Two Receivers, After Waiving Greg Orton

Written by

New England Patriots, Nick Caserio, the director of player personnel, made the announcement Sunday morning during his news conference at Gillette Stadium.

The Patriots continue to re-tool the back end of their roster, signing wide receivers Cole Stanford and Brian Tyms.

Stanford played ball out of Cal Poly, beginning at linebacker, but ending as a slotback. He finished the season with 24 receptions for 354 yards and four touchdowns. He also had 14 carries for 53 yards.

Tyms, a UDFA in 2012, spent time with, San Francisco, Miami and Cleveland’s practice squad. The 6-foot-3 receiver ended the season playing in seven games with the Browns.

With the additions of these players, came the subtraction of another. Wide receiver Greg Orton, who reportedly suffered a season ending Achilles injury, during training camp action on Friday.

Orton was waived for the purpose of being placed on injured reserve.
