The Red Sox (24-15) could not overcome an early deficit as Rick Porcello had his worst outing of the year only pitching five inning and giving up five runs to the Royals (19-19). Koji Uehara was roughed up as well as the Royals outlasted the red hot Red Sox offense.

This is the first time both these teams have met in first place since 2005. Steven Wright (2-2 1.37 ERA) takes the ball for Boston and will look to continue his success early on this season.
