Boston Red Sox 2016 Report Card: Offense

As the season has come to a close, we at CLNS Radio would like to do a report card for the 2016 Boston Red Sox.

For all players who played enough to qualify to have a grade, I give grades and reasoning for that grade to each member of the offense.

Pitching grades will be posted in a separate article. So let's get to it! Let the grades roll in!

The Boston Red Sox (93-68) fell 4-3 to the Toronto Blue Jays (88-73) after closer Craig Kimbrel gave up a run in the ninth inning of a tie game. Boston now falls 0.5 games behind the Cleveland Indians for the second best record in the American League and Toronto moves back into a tie with the Baltimore Orioles for the first Wild Card spot.

Dustin Pedroia hit his fourth grand slam of his career and second of the season in the seventh inning to propel the Boston Red Sox (91-64) to their 10th straight victory and postseason berth with a 6-4 win over the Tampa Bay Rays (65-89) at the Trop.

The Boston Red Sox (83-64) will look to take the first three games of a four-game series from the New York Yankees (77-70) as David Price (16-8, 3.81 ERA) will duel against Bryan Mitchell (2-1, 2.45 ERA) on Saturday afternoon at Fenway Park.

Edwin Jackson turned back the clock for the San Diego Padres (57-80) and dominated the Boston Red Sox (76-61) for seven scoreless innings, giving the home team a 2-1 victory after David Ortiz flied out to end the game.

The Boston Red Sox (76-60) will look to shake off a tough 1-0 loss to Oakland as Drew Pomeranz (2-3, 4.06 ERA with Boston) faces his old squad in his old stomping grounds, as the Sox open up a three-game road series against the struggling San Diego Padres (56-80).
