After a tough 2-1 loss last night, the Sox will give it another shot against the San Diego Padres, the worst team in the National League West.
Edwin Jackson turned back the clock for the San Diego Padres (57-80) and dominated the Boston Red Sox (76-61) for seven scoreless innings, giving the home team a 2-1 victory after David Ortiz flied out to end the game.
The Boston Red Sox (76-60) will look to shake off a tough 1-0 loss to Oakland as Drew Pomeranz (2-3, 4.06 ERA with Boston) faces his old squad in his old stomping grounds, as the Sox open up a three-game road series against the struggling San Diego Padres (56-80).
Eduardo Rodriguez (2-6, 4.83) pitched nearly eight innings of no-hit ball, but the Red Sox (76-60) could not support his effort with runs and the Oakland Athletics (58-78) walked off in the ninth to win 1-0.
Tied for possession of first place in the AL East, the Boston Red Sox (76-59) aim to sweep the Oakland Athletics (57-78) backed by Eduardo Rodriguez (2-6, 5.35) as he faces off against Kendall Graveman (10-9, 3.96).
With a handul of names being recalled from the minor leagues this past Friday, there is one player who stands out above the rest in helping this team improve.
Even the biggest Boston Red Sox fan has to start feeling bad for the Oakland Athletics pitching staff.

We learned two things on Friday night in Oakland: the Boston Red Sox would love to face the A’s every single game, and Travis Shaw is not ready to give up his playing time to the top prospect in the majors.
