Victorino back to 15-day DL with Pulled Right Hamstring

Written by

The Red Sox injury woes continue as on Saturday they had to place starting right fielder, Shane Victorino, on the 15-day DL with a pulled right hamstring.

Victronio hurt the hamstring after he bunted a ball on Friday into a force play and came up very odly. Teammante, Johnny Gomes, helped Victroino off the field.

Victronio hurting his hamstring Friday night was the second time this season he has hurt it. Victorino missed the begining part of the season with the hamstring issue as well. The first pull caused him to miss 22 games in fact.

"We still think it's not as severe," Farrell said Saturday, "but with the other situations we're also managing, but his was the most clear-cut for need of some downtime, so he's on the DL."

Victorino played a very key part in the Red Sox winning the World Series last year as he sliced 15 home runs, stole 21 bases and batted .294. Victorino's 5.8 WAR(wins above replacement) was second to Dustin Pedroia.

Victorino was scuffiling at the plate this year, hitting .242 with one home run and 10 runs batted in.

Victorino's stint this time on the DL will be his sixth time since the 2010 season. Hamstring, thumb and abdominal issues have all caused the speedster to miss time.

Victorino joins starters Will Middlebrooks and Felix Doubront on the Red Sox DL.

The Red Sox made the move to call up Daniel Nava from AAA to replace Victorino.
