Red Sox Place Starter, Felix Doubrount, on DL with Shoulder Strain

Written by

The Red Sox injuries keep biting them as they announced Wednesday that they placed starter, Felix Doubront, on the 15-day DL with left shoulder comfort.

The Red Sox made the move to place the south-paw on the disabled list after he left Tuesday's start versus the Blue Jays with discomfort in his left shoulder.

Doubront was not sharp in that game at all as he allowed four hits while giving up five runs and two home runs to Toronto.

Doubront was 2-4 with a 5.12 ERA and 31 strikeouts.

Don't let Doubront's subpar numbers deceive you, this kid can eat up innings for the staff as he pitched 162.1 innings last season.

The Red Sox will have to dig into their farm system to find a starter to replace Doubront. The possible canidates look like they could be: Allen Webster, Brandon Workman or Ruby De La Rosa.

"He's gone through an exam today and what we learned after he came out of last night's game is that he did bump his shoulder prior to the start yesterday. actually the day before, so there is no pinpointed area that there is a strenth deficit," manager John Farrell said Wednesday(5/21). "There is overall fatigue--we saw that in {diminshed} velocity last night--but there wasn't anything in the examination that pinpointed one spot."

Farrell also made note to the fact that Doubront did not undergo an MRI but if he does not respond to the treatment, one will have to be given.

Doubront hopes to be back pitching in about a month.
