Tampa Bay Rays Pitcher David Price Gets Defensive on Twitter After Game Two Loss

Written by

There is no question that David Price is a fantastic pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays. His accomplishments speak for themselves. He has won a Cy Young Award. He has been an All-Star three times. He has been a 20-game winner.

Price felt the need to let his fans and more interestingly his detractors know about these accomplishments via a Twitter rant after he lost to the Boston Red Sox in game two of the American League Division Series Saturday evening.

Trust me I don't want sympathy...I got beat tonight...so be it..I'll bounce back...3x ALLSTAR...2 time player choice...runner up cy...AND CY

— David Price (@DAVIDprice14) October 6, 2013

During his postgame media availability after pitching seven innings and allowing seven runs on nine hits while picking up the loss, Price also had some choice words for Red Sox slugger David Ortiz. Ortiz crushed his second home run of the game off of the southpaw right down the right field line to lead off the eighth inning to give his team a three-run lead.

He knows how I've pitched him for the last probably year-and-a-half, two years," Price said. "So he steps in the bucket and hits a homer. And he stares at it to see if it's fair or foul, I'm sure that's what he would say, but as soon as he hit it and I saw it I knew it was fair. Run.

The series now shifts to St. Petersburg, FL and Tropicana Field for games three and four (if necessary) as the Red Sox will attempt to close out the series Monday evening wth Clay Buchholz facing Alex Cobb. It will be interesting to see if Cobb takes matters into his own hands to defend his teammate while facing Ortiz.

Stay tuned to CLNS Radio as we will have full coverage of the Red Sox playoff run.
