A much needed spark will be added to the Boston Red Sox lineup as the team will activate centerfielder Jacoby Ellsbury on Wednesday from the disabled list after missing the past 16 games with a small fracture in the navicular bone of his right foot.
Boston manager John Farrell indicated that Ellsbury will bat leadoff tonight in Colorado. While Ellsbury was out, the Red Sox used a tandem of Dustin Pedroia and Shane Victorino in the leadoff spot. Both fared well in Ellsbury’s absence.
It is expected that the Boston lineup returns to normal for the remainder of the season and postseason with Ellsbury leading off, Victorino in the two hole and Pedroia batting third.
So far in 2013, he has hit .299 8 HRs 52 RBIs in 131 games. He has recorded a major league-leading 52 stolen bases.
