BOSTON—Following the arrest of his son, former Boston Red Sox player and current color commentator Jerry Remy will be taking some time off. In his place will be Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley, who will fill in for Remy during tonight’s game and during the team’s West Coast road trip next week.

Eckersley spent eight of his 24 seasons in Boston, posting an 88-71 record in correlation with 771 strikeouts.

Friday is the only game that NESN has during this series, with Fox and ESPN taking Saturday and Sunday’s contests.

Remy’s son Jared was ordered held without bail on Friday and is charged with the murder of his girlfriend, 27-year-old Jennifer Martel.  NESN released a statement on Friday afternoon.

“This morning, we learned of a terrible tragedy. All of us at NESN and the Red Sox, along with Jerry Remy, are filled with grief for everyone involved, and we extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Jennifer Martel.”
