According to a report from Joe McDonald of ESPNBoston.com, the Boston Red Sox are calling up third baseman Brock Holt, not Will Middlebrooks from the Pawtucket Red Sox to take the place of the newly-traded Jose Iglesias on the Red Sox roster.
Holt has appeared in 10 games this season for Boston, batting .280 with no home runs and eight RBI. His best game average-wise came on July 13 against the Oakland Athletics. He had a hit in three at-bats which equaled out to a .320 average for the game. His work defensively has also been impressive, particularly during the series against the Athletics. He made several leaping grabs that were of the run-saving variety.
After being demoted to Pawtucket earlier in the year, Will Middlebrooks appears to be on the rebound. Currently in Pawtucket, he is hitting .257 with eight home runs and 30 RBI in 36 games. He is in the lineup today for the Pawsox’ game against the Norfolk Tides.
It will be interesting to see what other moves the Red Sox will make before the deadline at 3 PM. There is a good chance that the roster will look a little different when the dust settles on what has been a busy day for many teams.
