Stephen Drew activated from the DL, Brock Holt sent to Triple A

Written by

Stephen Drew has been activated by the Red Sox today and the corresponding move was to send Brock Holt down to Triple A Pawtucket.

Drew hasn't played since June 28 with hamstring tightness and has appeared in just 66 games during 2013 due to various injuries. Some of those injuries include concussion like symptoms to start the season and even back discomfort.

Drew has underperformed as he only managed lines of .233/.313/.409 which is considered to be a disappointment. Others want to see Iglesias at short but since the Red Sox are decimated with injuries to the left side of their infield he will stick at third. Drew will go back into the eighth spot in the order while playing shortstop.

Holt was the other player in the Hanrahan trade this offseason the Red Sox aquired. He was called up July 6 and it seems to be a re-occuring theme with Red Sox youngsters as they have been called up twice or more to fill in for players on the disabled list. Jose De La Torre, Allen Webster and Brandon Workman are all examples of how Brock Holt has been used. He played in 10 games for Boston, hitting .290 and will resume his starting role back at Triple A Pawtucket.
