Last summer, infielder Pedro Ciriaco was regarded by a lot of Boston Red Sox fans as a must keep player for the future as he came onto the seen to hit .348 and .322 respecitvely in his first two months with the team in 2012. Fast forward almost a year later, Ciriaco is packing his bags and is headed to out west to San Diego.
On Friday, the Red Sox dealt the utlity infielder to the Padres for a player to be named later or cash after being designated for assignment last week. Ciriaco has struggled with Boston this season hitting only .216 with a home run and four RBIs in 51 at bats. In addtion to struggling with the bat, he has committed seven errors in the field and didn't have much of a future going forward with the team with the solid play of Jose Iglesias over the past few weeks.
With the Padres, it is expected that Ciriaco serves as utlity infielder and could thrive better with more playing time with his new team. Don't expect for the Red Sox to get much in return for him if they end up getting a minor league player back in return. It is expected to be a fringe prospect at best
