In our last Spring Training report, Jess Thomas said Drew Pomeranz and Steven Wright were behind the rest of the players and had yet to throw off the mound.
The Boston Globe's Pete Abraham reported that both Pomeranz and Wright will be throwing off the mound this week and next.
Pomeranz, who had a stem cell injection in his throwing elbow, will throw off the mound on Monday, as well as Wright, who injured his shoulder diving back to second base in August when he was pinch-running.
Other news and notes:
Eduardo Rodriguez, who injured the same knee he injured last year, threw off the mound on Tuesday.
The Red Sox are not expecting Carson Smith, who had Tommy John surgery last season, to throw off the mound until next month. He will start the 2016 season in the minors.
Xander Bogaerts told the media he has been "feeling old" lately. He is 24-years-old.
Pablo Sandoval said his motivation for getting into shape was "shame" and his son. He told reporters he knows he needs to win his third base position back and said he has a lot to prove.
Hanley Ramirez arrived to camp wearing a David Ortiz shirt. He told the media Ortiz is "his everything."
He said he wanted Big Papi to come back, but promptly said no when asked if Ramirez thought Ortiz would come back.
Blake Swihart has had some issues throwing back to the mound from behind the plate, which relates to him not being a catcher for a while. He said he's not worried about it.
Brandon Workman (remember him?) will start the season in the minors. He said his arm is feeling stronger. He has not pitched in the majors since 2014 and only played in 10 games in 2016.If you want MORE coverage of your team, check out Red Sox Beat Podcast here on CLNS Radio!
