Waiver Wire: Juan Francisco, Welcome to Fenway.

Written by

Juan Francisco is staying in the AL East. Today, the Boston Red Sox, laid claim on the former Toronto Blue Jay.

The Red Sox have a backup plan, incase they don’t reel in Pablo Sandoval, picking up a similar player in size, Juan Francisco, via waivers from the Blue Jays.

Francisco appeared in 106 games with the Jays last season, batting .220 with 16 home runs and 43 RBIs.

It’s not Panda like numbers, nor is it quite as exciting, but depth at first and third base never hurts. Francisco has played both positions, during stops in Cincinnati, Atlanta and Milwaukee.

If Sandoval comes into the fold, heck, the Red Sox might be able to flip Francisco down the road. I suppose all bases are covered here.
