Red Sox Sign Koji Uehara Through 2016 Season

Written by

The Red Sox are retaining an arm, that was named an American League All-Star last season.

A year ago, Koji Uehara, struck out Cardinals, Matt Carpenter, clinching the Red Sox a world series, in front of the Fenway faithful. Today, his pockets are lined with fresh money.

The Red Sox, deemed Uehara, worthy of a reported, two year deal worth $18 million over the next two seasons. The body of work that proves the deal: 6-5 record with a 2.52 ERA and 26 saves in 64 appearances that included 53 games without allowing a run in 2014.

The team is taking a gamble, with the hopes that Uehara can find his form that made him so popular, after signing with the team in 2012, as a free agent.

Uehara, has set a franchise record, posting a 1.75 ERA, the best of any pitcher through their first two years, at a 75 inning minimum.
