Jay King: We Don't Know What They'll Look Like

The Celtics future may be bright, but what the team may look like next season is very uncertain.

No one knows who will be where, who might get traded, or who will even be re signed come this off season. The draft and free agency are going to be. Jay King from Masslive.com joins Celtics Beat to discuss the off season of the Celtics. With two first round picks top 8 guaranteed, and the other at 17 some would think that’s a bright future going into next season, but Jay King of Masslive.com still believes the future is still a little foggy going into next year. “We don’t know what they’ll look like, I don’t even think Ainge knows what they’ll look like,” King said.

King said “The top 3 guys (in the draft) are obviously a cut ahead everyone else in the draft” This years draft class has 3 potential franchise changers. Andrew Wiggins, the lean, super athletic wing out of Kansas. Joel Embiid, the freakish center who has developed faster than many experts thought, also out of Kansas. The third is Jabari Parker, the scoring machine out of Duke who is being compared to Celtic great Paul Pierce.

When asked about what the Celtics would need in the offseason he said “I think they would obviously love to get a rim protecting center. I think if Embiid didn’t have the back issues, he’d be the ideal pick.” but he also expects Danny Ainge to trade the pick saying “I think no matter where the pick lands I expect Danny to trade it. I think they’ll try to do what they did in 2007, and trade for a star. There isn’t a Ray Allen or Kevin Garnett to get.”

The Celtics are definitely looking to upgrade the roster whether it be through the draft, via trade but don’t expect the C’s to be big players in free agency. When asked about the roster he said “this roster just didn’t make much sense. They started off the season with five SG’s, 6 PF’s, didn’t have a legitimate center except Vitor Faverani, who had two good games all season. This roster just made no sense.”

So you could possibly expect major turnover and a close to brand new team next season. The Celtics front office has work to do going into this upcoming offseason but it should start off well with a lottery pick, and another first round pick. Until we find out what the Celtics will do, all we can do is speculate and have fun.
