Boston Celtics: Paul Pierce to return to Boston? Ainge rules nothing out...

Written by

Do dreams really come true in the NBA?

Kevin Garnett brought new meaning to the phrase, anything is possible  to Boston Celtics fans. It's been much-discussed on our Celtics podcasts, C's magazine and the Celtics Post Game Show  this season, could Paul Pierce finish his career in Boston?

Sounds like Danny Ainge is not opposed to it but, in typical Ainge style, he threw the ball back in The Truth's court.

CLNS Radio friend and WEEI Celtics' columnist, Ben Rohrbach tweets some Danny Ainge quotes regarding the possibility of Paul Pierce returning to Boston next season. Ainge says, at the right price, right circumstances.

Obviously, Ainge will not sign the long-term Celtics' captain for anywhere near the 15.3 million he was paid last season. The right circumstances reference tells me that Ainge would envision Pierce in a lesser role and likely a bench contributor.

On Pierce's 2nd return to Boston on March 8, 2014, he addressed the possibility of a return to Boston. Pierce, when asked if he would see himself back in Boston, he certainly didn't rule it out. Pierce told CLNS  "Yeah, why not?"

Here's Paul Pierce post-game presser from March 8th:
