There was a lot of talk earlier in the season that former captain of the Boston Celtics, Paul Pierce, had not truly accepted the trade that sent him and fellow teammate Kevin Garnett to the Brooklyn Nets.  With him being a free agent at the end of the season, many came to the conclusion that his Brooklyn tenure would be one-and-done.  Some even thought a return to the Celtics could be possible.

However, Nets play-by-play announcer for the YES Network, Ian Eagle has said that Pierce has since acclimated himself, and now enjoys being a Net.  One of the key turning points was his return on January 26th to Boston, and how the night finally allowed Pierce to turn the page.

"The emotional return to TD Garden did a lot for Paul to create some closure.  I really believe that" Eagle told CLNS Radio on the Celtics Beat podcast.

"And [the Celtics] did just an incredible job honoring him, honoring Kevin Garnett...But it also allowed Pierce in particular to move on.  And he has since embraced the idea of being apart of this Brooklyn Nets franchise...He's just more at ease.  I think he's become himself again."

Eagle came on Celtics Beat to primarily discuss the NCAA Tournament, which he has been providing play-by-play for for CBS Sports.  However, the Celtics Beat Fan Question of the Day, proposed by Samuel Lias, shifted gears a little bit:

"To answer your question on the Pierce end -- I think he's going to be back.  I think he's going to end up signing a two-year deal and they'll pay him, and he'll get his money with the Nets" Eagle said.

However, as in Samuel's question, he asked about both the futures of Pierce and Garnett.

"The Garnett storyline has yet to be written.  Physically this season has been taxing on him...It's been a challenging season for him -- dealing with the back issues.

"I think there's going to be a lot of soul searching on his part.  He's not the kind of guy that strikes me that's just going to hold on to get the paycheck.  If he can't bring anymore the way he's accustomed to...I could see KG retiring."

Regarding Garnett, it should come as no surprise.  As Celtics fans remember, it was up in the air all season on whether or not Garnett would return to Boston after the 2012 season.  However, after a deep run in the post-season, Garnett ultimately decided to re-sign with the team.  Could a similar situation play out this year if Brooklyn can legitimately challenge for the title?

We'll have to wait and see.
