Game #8 Recap: Boston Celtics Breeze Past Orlando Magic, 120-105

Written by

Boston Celtics 120, Orlando Magic 105

The Celtics headed home to Boston for a contest against the Orlando Magic after a thrilling win Saturday night in Miami against the Heat. After the win in Miami, the Celtics find themselves on a 3-game win streak after an 0-4 start to the season. The playing field was even for Boston and Orlando, as they were both 3-4 heading into this game.

The Celtics' starting lineup has been somewhat fluid until Brad Stevens figures out what works for the team. Bradley, Crawford, Green, Bass, and Olynyk got the start.

Though Jeff Green ended the game Saturday night on one the highest notes in his Celtic career, he struggled to start the game tonight. However; while Green struggled, Avery Bradley relished in his role, making three of his first four shots, two of them assisted by rookie Kelly Olynyk, accounting for six of Boston's first eight points.

By the end of the first quarter, the Celtics had done particularly well against the Magic, winning the battle in the paint 16-6  while shooting 68 percent with only two turnovers. Boston's performance led to a six-point lead to end the first quarter (31-25).

Though Boston picked up the pace in the second quarter, the Magic had answers for the Celtics, diminishing Boston's lead to two points (39-37) with a three-point shot from Magic rookie Victor Oladipo midway through the second quarter.

Orlando was unable to keep the pace that got them within two points, as Boston's lead ballooned to 12 points near the end of the second quarter.

Jordan Crawford showed growth tonight; though he hasn't completely learned how to effectively select his shots, it was apparent that he's working on it. By halftime, Crawford lead the team with 12 points on 5-for-7 shooting, six assists, and zero turnovers.

The Celtics entered halftime with a nine-point lead over the Magic (59-50).

Kelly Olynyk could have taken some pointers from the old Jordan Crawford during the third quarter. The rookie hesitated to take wide open shots and instead opted to pass or put the ball on the floor. Crawford displayed his best Rajon Rondo impression with a pretty pass to Brandon Bass.

Boston continued their dominant performance in the third quarter, ending the quarter with a 13-point lead (87-74).

The fourth quarter was smooth sailing for the Celtics; with rookies Phil Pressey and Vitor Faverani entering the lineup.

Though both Kelly Olynyk and Jared Sullinger missed three-pointers to end the game, the Celtics pulled it out tonight against the Magic with a final score of 120-105.  Avery Bradley, Jeff Green, Kelly Olynyk, and Jordan Crawford led Boston, Bradley with 24 points and Green, Olynyk, and Crawford each with 16 points while Arron Afflalo and Victor Oladipo were the point leaders for Orlando, Afflalo with 18 points and Oladipo with 17 points. The Celtics are now a .500 team and have one day off before their game in Boston against the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday night.
