Game #5 Recap: Brooklyn Nets 82, Boston Celtics 80

Written by

Paul Pierce visited the Celtics locker room prior to Tuesday night’s game in Brooklyn to mingle with some of his old teammates. Hours later, he took the court for the first time against his former team.

Chris Johnson’s 2 free throws, however, were the difference in this one. Johnson was fouled going to the hoop with seven second remaining, and the Nets went on to beat the Boston Celtics by the final score of 82-80.

Lee made two three pointers to tie the game 80-80 with 1:42 left, but the Celtics were unable to score at the end. He led the Celtics in scoring with 14 points off the bench.

After missing a jumper at the left-elbow to put the Celtics up with just 15 seconds left, Lee got another chance to tie it after Johnson’s two free throws.

Gerald Wallace inbounded the ball by lofting a long pass over to Lee. He caught the ball, dribbled one step to his left, and rimmed out a jumper and the Nets went on to win.

Pierce scored only four points on the night, but added 10 rebounds and five assists in 27 minutes.

‘It was just tough looking over there, seeing the green and me not in it.,” Pierce said. “But I’m in Brooklyn now, it’s time to move on and get better. It’s just the preseason but we got the win.”

Jeff Green and Kris Humphries each chipped in with 12 points. Humphries also added eight rebounds.

Jordan Crawford started again along with Avery Bradley in the backcourt. He scored 10 points, and had a team-leading six assists.

With the loss, the Celtics now move to 1-4 in the preseason. They take the court again Wednesday as they travel to Air Canada Centre to take on the Toronto Raptors.
