According to Michael McNamara, the Celtics are considering a trade that would send captain Paul Pierce and guard Avery Bradley to New Orleans in exchange for Eric Gordon.
Pierce, 35, is set to earn 15.3 million dollars next season, however the Celtics have a team option for him. For the full details on the option, click here.
Since being drafted out of Texas, Avery Bradley has established himself as one of the NBA's top perimeter defenders. He has two more seasons on his contract, where he is set to earn 2.5 million next season, and 3.5 million the season after.
Eric Gordon has missed the majority of his time in New Orleans due to injuries, but he has thrived in his limited time. This past season, he averaged 17 points and 3.3 assists over 30.1 minutes per game.
He currently has three more years on his contract, which breaks down as follows:
2013-2014: 14.2 Million
2014-2015: 14.9 Million
2015-2016: 15.5 Million
If this trade happens, the Celtics would acquire a much needed scorer. The teams starting line up would likely look like this:
PG: Rajon Rondo
SG: Eric Gordon
SF: Jeff Green
PF: Brandon Bass / Jared Sullinger
C: Kevin Garnett
So while losing Pierce would be hard for fans to cope with, the starting line up would still look great with Gordan manning the two.
