Game Preview: New York Knicks at Boston Celtics

Written by

New York Knicks (3-0, 1-0 road) @ Boston Celtics (0-3, 0-1 home) TD Garden, 1:00 pm on ABC/WEEI Officials: Scott Foster, Derrick Collins, Bill Kennedy Line: Knicks -2.5  Get Tickets to Tonight’s Game at the TD Garden

On the verge of elimination, the Boston Celtics host the New York Knicks at 1:00 PM EST at the TD Garden. The Celtics come into the game hoping to avoid an embarrassing 4-0 sweep in the first round of the playoffs. The Knicks are looking to win, as it would give them a long break before their next playoff series.

New York Knicks: PG: Raymond Felton SG: Pablo Prigioni SF: Iman Shumpert PF: Carmelo Anthony C: Tyson Chandler

Boston Celtics: PG: Avery Bradley SG: Paul Pierce SF: Jeff Green PF: Brandon Bass C: Kevin Garnett

Rajon Rondo, OUT (knee) Jared Sullinger, OUT (back)

Marcus Camby, QUES (foot) Amar'e Stoudemire, OUT (knee)

J.R. Smith, OUT (Suspension)

Rasheed Wallace, OUT (Foot)

Celtics Offense: So far in the series, the Celtics offense has been downright pitiful. In the first three games of the series, the team has scored 78, 71, and 76 points, respectively. If the Celtics want to prolong their season, they need to start scoring the ball. Bench Production: The Celtics bench only scored 10 points in Friday night's contest. In order to win this game, they will need more contributions from the reserves. J.R. Smith: J.R. Smith has been suspended for tonight's game, after elbowing Jason Terry in the face on Friday night. Smith has played great all series, so look to see if the Knicks can replace their lost spark off of the bench. Carmelo Anthony: The Celtics have had no answer to Melo all series, as he has averaged 32 points per game. If Carmelo continues his hot streak, the Knicks should have an easy road to victory.

Boston rankings: Pace: 91.7 (16th), Off Rtg: 103.1 (24th), Def Rtg: 103.3 (7th) New York rankings: Pace: 89.8 (26th), Off Rtg: 111.1 (3rd), Def Rtg: 106.3 (18th)

I predict that the Celtics will eek out a close victory in this one. The Knicks will have a hard time scoring off of the bench with Smith suspended, and the Celtics are playing with their backs against the wall.
