Many Celtics fans wondered why former Celtic Keyon Dooling signed with the Memphis Grizzlies instead of the Boston Celtics after coming out of retirement.
Its all about money. Sean Grande tweeted Doc Rivers' comments on why Dooling is not currently a Celtic:
Doc on Keyon Dooling singing with Memphis; “we wanted to [sign him] but couldn’t because of the buyout. He would have been with us."— Sean Grande (@SeanGrandePBP) March 27, 2013
The "buyout" that Doc is referring to is the $400,000 that the Celtics paid to Dooling when they waived him and he retired, according to Mark Deeks.
