Game #71 Recap: Jeff Green Saves the Day for the Celtics in Cleveland

CLEVELAND - The Boston Celtics came into this game riding a five game losing streak. They finally got it back on track with a close win against the Cleveland Cavaliers Wednesday night.We saw a different starting lineup for Boston in the win against Cleveland. Boston won 93-92, with Jeff Green hitting the game-winning-layup to put Boston up by one.Kevin Garnett was once again inactive for the Celtics, so Chris Wilcox started along side Paul Pierce, Jeff Green, Avery Bradley, and Brandon Bass. Bass had a huge game for the Celtics, scoring 22 points and grabbing six rebounds. Bass has been having a tough year, but this game definitely showed that he can still get the job done when needed. Pierce had 19 points to go along with 10 rebounds and eight assists; a near triple double. Pierce needs five more steals to pass Terry Porter for 28th on the NBA's all time steals list. Bradley had a mediocre game, scoring only three points. Green had 21 points to go along with the game winning layup.The Celtic's bench didn't score much. Jordan Crawford was the high man with 12 points. Jason Terry, Shavlik Randolph, and Terrence Williams combined for just 10 points.This game was all Cleveland up until the fourth quarter. The Cavaliers were up 73-67 going into the fourth quarter. The Celtics finished off the Cavaliers, winning the fourth quarter 26-19.Kyrie Irving sat out this game with an injury. Wayne Ellington was the high man for Cleveland, scoring 16 points. Alonzo Gee and Shaun Livingston both scored 12 points each. Tyler Zeller scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Tristan Thompson scored just two points in the loss.With 2.1 seconds left in the game, Bradley took the ball out for Boston. He threw the ball in to Green as he ran through the middle of the paint. Green then drove the ball in and hit the layup with Thompson and Livingston all over him at the buzzer.Cleveland falls to 22-48, and Boston improves to 37-34. They are now in the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference standings; two games behind Chicago. They lead Milwaukee by two and a half games.Boston will travel home to face the Atlanta Hawks in Boston at TD Garden Friday, March 29th.
