Game #68 Recap: Dallas Mavericks drop Boston Celtics, 104-94

Written by

Dallas Mavericks 112, Boston Celtics 88

NBA: Dallas Mavericks at Boston CelticsAfter squandering big leads against the Miami Heat and New Orleans Hornets, the Celtics headed to Dallas to snap their two-game losing streak against the Mavericks. You would think the Celtics would be tired of losing; however, by their performance out of the gate, it didn't seem so. Boston missed their first four shots, with Kevin Garnett coming to the rescue, hitting a jumper to put the C's on the board.Avery Bradley stole the ball, then had the ball stolen from him which led to a 3-pointer for Mavs' Mike James. James got off to a good start, scoring 5 straight points.KG dropped two more points; however, KG's 4 points were not enough to match the Mavs' 9. A Dirk Nowitzi layup pushed the Mavs' lead to 7, prompting Doc Rivers to call a timeout.Boston came out shooting after the timeout. Paul Pierce's layup were the first points for Boston not scored by KG and started a 7-0 Celtics' run. Paul Pierce hit a 3, tying the score (11-11); the Mavericks called a time out. With the seconds rolling down in the first quarter, Jeff Green drove straight to the basket, hitting a layup.Since the shot clock started before the Mavs made the inbound pass, the officials took a good five minutes to get the time right. All that was in vain, as the Mavs failed to convert. The C's headed to the second quarter trailing by 11 points (30-19).The C's continued their mediocre performance to start the second quarter. Boston missed numerous layups and did not capitalize on the Mavs' missed shots.Dallas went on a 8-1 run to end the second, leading to an 11-point advantage for the Mavericks heading into halftime.Boston kept making the same mistakes in the third quarter as they had previously in the game. They were still not converting on Dallas' misses, turned the ball over, and missed layups, which kept them from cutting their deficit and coming back in the game. The Celts entered the fourth quarter with an 11-point deficit (79-68).The C's once again tried to rally to win the game in the fourth quarter; however their simple mistakes that they had committed earlier in the game continued to plague them.Boston came within 5 points; however, were unable to win the game, losing the rebound battle and making countless mistakes on offense. The C's lost to the Dallas Mavericks with a final score of 104-94, extending their losing streak tp 3 games.Brandon Wright and Dirk Nowitzki led the Mavs in scoring, Wright with 22 points and Nowitzki with 22 points while Paul Pierce, Brandon Bass, and Kevin Garnett led the C's, each with 16 points. The Celtics will head to Memphis to play the Grizzlies tomorrow night.
