Kelly Olynyk plays for Boston Celtics vs. Indiana Pacers after taking elbow to his left eye

Written by

Kelly Olynyk was elbowed in the eye by teammate Shavlik Randolph while playing one-on-one during pregame warmups. He is unlikely to play Wednesday night according to his coach.

BOSTON – Kelly Olynyk took an elbow to his left eye during his pregame workout and will be out against the Indiana Pacers. Olynyk, who visited on Ophthalmologist after the injury, will make way for more minutes for Jonas Jerebko, who has been in and out of the rotation since his hot start after the trade deadline. "Kelly was playing his typical one-on-one pregame with Shavlik [Randolph] and got elbowed in the eye," Celtics coach Brad Stevens said. "His eye blew up, so he went to the Ophthalmologist to get sutured up and hopefully get some swelling down." The injury sounded a bit gruesome according to the coach. "It just swelled up right away. I’d say he’s very unlikely [Wednesday night], but I have not heard final word from [trainer Ed Lacerte] or the doctor." Stevens went on to say that Olynyk’s eye "exploded," but he "didn’t get the impression that he was in a ton of pain." No word yet on whether Kelly will have to trim his hair to save his eye…
