The offseason is in the dog days of the summer. That period of time right after free agency, and right before the NBA Video games drop and training camp opens. Luckily, we have the Celtics Beat Podcast where Rich and Adam are joined by Brian Robb of Celtics Hub to catch us up on what the Celtics have going on.

The Celtics have been rumored for a few deals this offseason, the latest being a trade that is centered on Josh Smith of the Detroit Pistons, and Jeff Green. “Taking on Josh Smith right now that kinda kills the C’s options the next couple of offseasons. He’s not on a good value contract right now.” Smith is due $13.5 million a year for the next three years.

This upcoming season is most likely going to be a year for watching the growth of the young guys like Marcus Smart, and James Young. “I can’t wait to see what Marcus Smart can do out there. We heard rave reviews of him last week on the select team. It won’t be pretty on the offensive end, especially shooting. But, he can be one of the best backcourt defenders in the league.”

It’s also year two for Brad Stevens, he’s regarded as one of the brightest young coaches in the league. “I’m excited to see Brad Stevens in year two. He did some good things last year. But, he himself admitted he did some learning on the fly. He has some guys he’s worked with before now. It’ll be interesting to see what he comes up with this offseason.”

Stevens was given a hugely flawed roster with a glut of players that were undersized power forwards, and didn't have any rim protection. He has a similar roster, but he has a year in the NBA under his belt.
