Report: Boston Celtics Interested In Lance Stephenson, Pull Out Race For Kris Humphries

Written by

Out of the Hump race, into the Stephenson quest.

In the 2014 NBA draft, the Boston Celtics went out and assessed the backcourt. And while they are satisifed with the re-signing of Avery Bradley, there is a growing belief that they are not done revamping their backcourt.

Lance Stephenson, who has received a five-year, $44 million contract from the Indiana Pacers, doesn't seem to like Larry Bird's offer and could go elsewhere, including, yes, the Celtics, according to Chris Broussard of ESPN.

Stephenson does have a ton of passion for the game that sometimes takes over a little too much, but the fire and attitude is embodied within Celtics history. The former Cincinnati Bearcat is a four-year guard who has averaged 9.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game in his career.

Stephenson can be had if the price is slightly elevated, which would Celtics general manager Danny Ainge turn to the $10.3 million trade exception (expires on July 12), or a sign-and-trade possibility with Rajon Rondo in the mix.

Boston's interest in Stephenson follows after their chase for Kris Humphries is over, as Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe reports. Humphries is thought to have a lot of interest from the Washington Wizards and Charlotte Hornets.
