Boston Bruins Beat Flyers 5-2

The Boston Bruins defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 5-2 in a Saturday Matinee to lock up the number one seed in the Eastern Conference.

 

 The Flyers controlled the tempo early on in the game and got the games first power play just 51 seconds into the period. Milan Lucic took exception to a hit delivered by Zac Rinaldo and went off for roughing. The Bruins successfully killed off the penalty and gained some momentum. At the 10:46 mark of the period, Shawn Thornton and Jay Rosehill dropped the gloves. Following the bout between the two heavy weights, the Bruins seized momentum. At 15:56 of the first period, David Krejci scored his 17th goal of the season. Krejci scooped up a Ray Emery rebound and put it over the extended reach of Emery. Loui Eriksson and Milan Lucic had the assists on the goal.

 

The score remained 1-0 much throughout the second period, but at 14:36 of the second, Wayne Simonds tied the game at one with a powerplay goal. Torey Krug was the Bruin in the box. He was penalized for playing with broken stick. Just 19 seconds laters, Milan Lucic put the Bruins back on top. Lucic blasted a one-timer by Ray Emery from the top of the circles. The Bruins 2-1 lead lasted all of 1:26. At 16:21 of the second, Jay Rosehill put home his second goal of the season. Rosehill, known more as a tough guy, had some beautiful moves on his goal.

 

The third period remained scoreless for most of the duration, but with 6:06 remaining, Johnny Boychuk blasted a drive by Ray Emery. Patrice Bergeron won an offensive zone faceoff right to Boychuk who showcased his powerful shot. Just 31 seconds after the Boychukc goal, Milan Lucic added some insurance by putting his 24th of the season behind Emery. Chris Kelly added the empty net goal with 20 second remaining to give the Bruins a 5-2 win.

 

Tuukka Rask was the winning goalie. Ray Emery Suffered the loss.
