Dennis Seidenberg Out For Season With Torn ACL and MCL

Written by

The injury bug has hit the Boston Bruins fairly hard this entire season.  The news that came down on Saturday afternoon was by far the biggest sting of the year.

Defenseman Dennis Seidenberg will be out 6-8 months after tearing the ACL and MCL in his right knee during Friday night's game against the Ottawa Senators.  Seidenberg was battling Ottawa's Cory Conacher behind the Boston net late in the third period when the two players collided, putting Seidenberg's leg in an awkward position as he fell to the ice.  Seidenberg was able to pull himself up, first to all fours, then to his skates, taking himself off the ice while play was occurring in the Ottawa end.

It was announced soon after the Bruins' 5-0 win on Friday night that Seidenberg would not make the trip to Ottawa for the second game in the team's back-to-back series.

Seidenberg, who signed a four-year contract extension early this season, had one goal and nine assists in 34 games this season for the Bruins.  He was second on the team in time on ice, averaging just less than 22 minutes of ice time per game.

Seidenberg's name is now added to the list of Bruins' players who have missed significant time this season with various ailments.  The team is currently without Loui Eriksson (concussion), Chris Kelly (broken leg) and Dougie Hamilton (lower body injury), along with Shawn Thornton (suspension).  Daniel Paille just returned to action on Friday night after missing seven games with a concussion.  Adam McQuaid also missed about a month with a leg injury, just returning to action recently for the B's.

The team was also missing Zdeno Chara and Carl Soderberg on Saturday night, both out with undisclosed injuries.  Both players are listed as day-to-day and are not expected to miss significant time.

Adam Belue

My name is Adam Belue, I'm from Fall River, MA, and I'm a sports fanatic.  I'll watch and write about just about any and every sport, even the fringe ones that aren't really sports like bowling, poker, and ultimate frisbee.  I'm a huge Green Bay Packers fan, and a self-proclaimed New England Patriots hater (and proud of it!)... which makes my job in a sporting goods store quite interesting.  I'm a big fan of the other local teams (Bruins, Red Sox, and Celtics), along with the Alabama Crimson Tide and college football as a whole.  I may be a bit obsessed (or a lot obsessed) with Taylor Swift, and I've seen her in concert four times so far... some of the best times I've had by the way her concerts are quite the experience!  I'm also a huge tennis fan, and have played the sport for a good majority of my life.  I wish more people watched and appreciated tennis.  I'm currently a part of the Boston Bruins and Boston Red Sox Beat Team on CLNS Radio, and post a weekly fantasy football and college football column during the season.
