Boston Bruins to call up Ryan Spooner from the AHL

Written by

After two very disappointing losses (back to back for the Bruins), the franchise is looking for an answer to fix their problems. After a viscous hit to head of newly acquired Loui Eriksson (which cause him to sit out of some game), the B’s are looking at what they can do to stop the bleeding. As of early this morning, the B’s have announced (per sources) that they will be recalling Ryan Spooner from the Providence B’s before Thursday night’s game against the Anaheim Ducks.

When a player is called up from the AHL, most of the time it is because of an injury, but in this it is vastly different. Instead, it’s more of an attempt to shake up the lineup, and wake this team up from it’s poor play in the past couple of games.  Coach Claude Julien said it best, as he stated “we need to look in the mirror!”  Carl Soderbeg and Jordan Caron have been two of the players that have been a disappointment so far this season, so one can imagine that it will be one of those two players who will be sent down. Spooner on the other hand has played phenomenal while in Providence, as he has scored two goals, and five assists in only eight games.  Turnovers in the defensive zone have become a common problem for the B’s in the young season, but they look to nip that in the bud, with the hope that Spooner will continue his stellar play at the NHL Level.
