Dennis Seidenberg Signs Four-Year Extension

Written by

You can officially add Dennis Seidenberg's name to the ever-expanding list of Bruins' players locked up to multi-year contracts by GM Peter Chiarelli.

According to TSN and other media reports, Seidenberg has agreed to a four-year contract extension worth $16 million.  The contract also reportedly contains a no-trade clause, meaning Seidenberg should be in the black and gold through the 2017-18 season.  Seidenberg was set to be an unrestricted free agent after this year.  He is currently making $3.25 million this season.

Seidenberg has flourished during his three-plus years in Boston (he was traded from Florida during the 2009-10 season), earning a Stanley Cup title in 2011 and playing in another Finals last season.  The playoff pairing of Seidenberg and captain Zdeno Chara dominated play during the Bruins' Cup runs, especially during their four-game sweep of the high-powered Pittsburgh Penguins offense last season.  Seidenberg is also one of the most durable defensemen in the NHL, missing just 9 games in the last four seasons combined.

Seidenberg would have been one of just three Bruins players to have become unrestricted free agents after this season, along with new addition Jarome Iginla and fan-favorite Shawn Thornton.  Torey Krug, Jordan Caron, Matt Bartkowski, Reilly Smith, and Kevan Miller are all set to be restricted free agents at the conclusion of the 2013-14 season.  Seidenberg is the third Bruins player to sign a lengthy contract with the squad this offseason, joining Patrice Bergeron and Tuukka Rask as players that the Bruins fans will be cheering on for years to come.

My name is Adam Belue, I'm from Fall River, MA, and I'm a sports fanatic.  I'll watch and write about just about any and every sport, even the fringe ones that aren't really sports like bowling, poker, and ultimate frisbee.  I'm a huge Green Bay Packers fan, and a self-proclaimed New England Patriots hater (and proud of it!)... which makes my job in a sporting goods store quite interesting.  I'm a big fan of the other local teams (Bruins, Red Sox, and Celtics), along with the Alabama Crimson Tide and college football as a whole.  I may be a bit obsessed (or a lot obsessed) with Taylor Swift, and I've seen her in concert four times so far... some of the best times I've had by the way her concerts are quite the experience!  I'm also a huge tennis fan, and have played the sport for a good majority of my life.  I wish more people watched and appreciated tennis.  I'm currently a part of the Boston Bruins and Boston Red Sox Beat Team on CLNS Radio, and post a weekly fantasy football and college football column during the season.
