Boston Bruins Potential Trade Target Evander Kane Out For Season

Written by

Yet another potential target for the Boston Bruins' playoff run has been removed from the trade block.

Winnipeg Jets forward Evander Kane, who was rumored to be available after a bizarre off-ice incident led to a healthy scratch earlier this week, has opted to undergo season-ending surgery on his left shoulder.

Kane had reportedly considered having shoulder surgery last offseason, but decided to try to rehab the injury instead.  The talented forward, who had 10 goals and 12 assists this season, missed practice on Thursday to meet with doctors and opted to take care of the nagging injury on Friday morning.

Kane was listed as a healthy scratch during Tuesday night's 3-2 overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks.  Initial reports had Kane being benched due to violating the team's dress code, stating that he showed up to a team meeting wearing sweats instead of a suit.  Later in the week news broke that Kane had an incident with several Jets teammates that day, which resulted in defenseman Dustin Byfuglien tossing Kane's sweats into the shower.

Kane has also had some questionable moments involving social media, posting photos in various poses with stacks of cash.  He was also benched by Winnipeg head coach Paul Maurice earlier this season for an undisclosed reason.

The 23-year-old, who has scored 30 goals in a season already in his young career, has been linked to the Bruins before and during this season.  Character issues aside, the winger could have potentially solved the season-long problem at right wing on the first line for Boston.  Ryan Spooner, Simon Gagne, Reilly Smith, and David Pastrnak have all been inserted into the first line at times this season, but the B's have still yet to find a suitable, stable partner for David Krejci and Milan Lucic.  The asking price for Kane seemed to be at an all-time low after this week's incidents, but the untimely surgery removes him from the shrinking list of potential right wingers for the B's to target this season.

My name is Adam Belue, I'm from Fall River, MA, and I'm a sports fanatic.  I'll watch and write about just about any and every sport, even the fringe ones that aren't really sports like bowling, poker, and ultimate frisbee.  I'm a huge Green Bay Packers fan, and a self-proclaimed New England Patriots hater (and proud of it!)... which makes my job in a sporting goods store quite interesting.  I'm a big fan of the other local teams (Bruins, Red Sox, and Celtics), along with the Alabama Crimson Tide and college football as a whole.  I may be a bit obsessed (or a lot obsessed) with Taylor Swift, and I've seen her in concert four times so far... some of the best times I've had by the way her concerts are quite the experience!  I'm also a huge tennis fan, and have played the sport for a good majority of my life.  I wish more people watched and appreciated tennis.  I'm currently a part of the Boston Bruins and Boston Red Sox Beat Team on CLNS Radio, and post a weekly fantasy football and college football column during the season.
