Boston Bruins Reportedly Sign Claude Julien to Three-Year Extension

Written by

Although not yet confirmed by the Boston Bruins, it is being reported that the team has given head coach Claude Julien a three-year contract extension.

Elliotte Friedman from Hockey Night in Canada tweeted earlier on Saturday night that the Bruins and their longtime coach had agreed to the extension.  Whether this season was the last year that Julien was signed for prior to the rumored extension was unclear, as his current contract may have included the 2015-16 season as well.  Either way, Julien will be the coach of the Bruins for at least three more seasons.

Julien has spent the last eight seasons in Boston, leading the team to a Stanley Cup title in 2011 and another Final appearance in 2013.  He has guided the Bruins to the playoffs every season that he has been in Beantown, and his team is expected to compete for a championship every year by the rabid Boston fan base.  He has an extremely tough challenge on his hands currently, with the squad suffering through numerous injuries and sluggish play to start the season.

Prior to this season starting, Bruins principal owner Jeremy Jacobs gave Julien a ringing endorsement, hinting that a contract extension would be coming sooner rather than later.

"He's been the best - it's been the best experience I've seen from the Bruins," said Jacobs about Coach Julien.  "I think he's a terrific coach and we totally support him.  He's been here, and he'll be around for quite a while.  I think that's the maximum confidence I can show, but that's Peter's (Chiarelli) role.  I don't want to undermine him."

Julien is second in Bruins' franchise history in wins with 316, only behind Hall of Fame coach Art Ross.

My name is Adam Belue, I'm from Fall River, MA, and I'm a sports fanatic.  I'll watch and write about just about any and every sport, even the fringe ones that aren't really sports like bowling, poker, and ultimate frisbee.  I'm a huge Green Bay Packers fan, and a self-proclaimed New England Patriots hater (and proud of it!)... which makes my job in a sporting goods store quite interesting.  I'm a big fan of the other local teams (Bruins, Red Sox, and Celtics), along with the Alabama Crimson Tide and college football as a whole.  I may be a bit obsessed (or a lot obsessed) with Taylor Swift, and I've seen her in concert four times so far... some of the best times I've had by the way her concerts are quite the experience!  I'm also a huge tennis fan, and have played the sport for a good majority of my life.  I wish more people watched and appreciated tennis.  I'm currently a part of the Boston Bruins and Boston Red Sox Beat Team on CLNS Radio, and post a weekly fantasy football and college football column during the season.
